What is a Gastronauts Adventure?
A Gastronauts Adventure effortlessly infuses food or drink events with once in a lifetime experiences. Many adventures are specialized tours, be it a Gastronomic “ski safari” tour in the Italian Alps, “HikeYoga” through wineries of the Finger Lakes or “Speed Plating” dating with 20 strangers—food and drink are just the beginning of your adventure!
What is the Class Cancellation Policy?
Class ticket purchases are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. This is because our teachers purchase materials and plan for their classes based on the number of students registered. However, if you’d like to offer your seat in that class to a friend or family member, we’d be happy to accommodate the change. What is the Courses Tours & Adventures Cancellation Policy?
Course, Event & Adventure purchases are refundable up to 31 days prior to the start date but are subject to change fees and charges. If you must cancel your reservation for a course, event or tour (adventure) and/or its extension, email us at email@example.com and we will refund your purchase less fees per course, event and tour (adventure) tour and/or extension: Please click the link to see full (link to) Cancellation Policy & Fees.
Do you have a minimum amount of spaces for classes, courses or adventures?
Yes, if there are not enough spaces purchased to cover running the class, course, event or adventure (we have a 12-person minimum), we will endeavor to reschedule the class, course, event or adventure on the same day of the week within the same month or within 60 days, at the same scheduled time, as soon as we can. If I have a food or drink allergy can I still attend classes, courses and adventures?
Gastronauts Academy cannot stress enough that it is your responsibility to inform us at the time of booking and up to 48 hours before your class, course or adventure, about any food or drink allergies you may have. We will endeavor to make every effort to substitute ingredients, create a personalized menu or create a sterilized teaching/tasting area for you to enjoy the class, course or adventure without disruption. Do students have to find their own accommodations?
Yes. However, we can help! We have special partnerships with local hotels, which are offered within each courses, event or adventure, depending on their location. At our HQ in Rochester NY, we use 384 East Avenue Inn & Suites, a beautiful, spacious and contemporary, privately owned hotel that is in the heart of the lively East End area of Rochester. For all students, attending classes, courses and adventures and for visiting friends and family, in Rochester, we can offer a special rate of $89.00 per night for a Standard Room and $109.00 per night for a Deluxe Suite with Kitchenette. 384 East Avenue Inn & Suites offers a complimentary shuttle service, which is minutes from Rochester's best known cultural attractions. There is free overnight parking for guests, free continental breakfast and free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

PAYMENT AND REFUND FAQ
Can I reserve a “class” by paying a deposit?
No. Classes are reserved by immediate payment in full for the class selected.
Can I reserve a course or group booking by paying a deposit or partial payment of the total cost?
Yes. Courses, tours and adventures; Gastronauts Academy allows reservation deposits of 30% to be made at the time of booking for courses lasting more than 5 days and group bookings over 10 participants. An invoice for the full payment shall be sent to the student and/or group leader eight weeks before the course, tour or adventure start / departure date. We require the full payment of outstanding fees six weeks before the start / departure date of the course, tour or adventure. Do you take complete beginners?
Absolutely!! That is the whole purpose of the Gastronauts Academy! We want you to “Follow Your Passion.” Many of our students have very little knowledge about cooking, coffee, wine, craft brewing or distilling. Those with more experience however, can gain a huge amount from the course.
If I am a mature student, when is the best time to come on a course?
We tend to have a broad mix of ages all year round.
How old do I have to be to attend a class, course or adventure?
Participants are required by law to be a minimum of 17 years old. There is no maximum age.
What is the ratio of men to women?Food & drink are for all to enjoy, so this varies considerably!
Can you help me find a job after I have completed the course?
The Gastronauts Academy has an excellent reputation with a number of recruiting agencies. If you receive a good reference from any of our courses and meet our standards within the course matrix, we will be very happy to guide you towards general recruitment agencies, ski agencies or yachting agencies in Europe and the U.S. You will also be able to find work within our Job Exchange page.
If I want to do a seasonal work, ski season, yacht season etc., which is the best course to do?
The Essential Cookery (4 week course) is ideal for this type of endeavor. We can also advise you about taking a working gap or sabbatical year, as well as supply you with contact information for agencies.
Do you offer the Basic Food Hygiene & First Aid certificates?
Yes. These courses are built into our 4 week courses, which the majority of students tend to do, as it will increase your preparation and opportunity for employment.
Do you have overseas students?
The majority of our students are American, however we do get a large number of students from all over the world, including Australia, Britain, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, South Africa and Northern Europeans. We can connect overseas students with a recommended immigration specialist
Do I need to bring anything specific with me?
Please wear what you feel comfortable in. We will supply everything else. Please wear covered, soft rubber-soled shoes that give you enough support for standing, walking and moving about the venue. Everything you will require in the kitchen is provided for you along with the Gastronauts Academy kitchen work wear like aprons and t-shirts, so you don’t make a mess on your nice every day clothes. Any other needs or requirements shall be specified in both the online course description and confirmation email.
Can I request sign language interpretation for any class, course or adventure?
Absolutely! Just email us at email@example.com at least 48 hours in advance with the class, course or adventure you’d like interpretation services for and we will book a sign language interpreter for that class for free!
Do you offer disability assistance for students?
Yes, we do! If you need special assistance or you would like your care giver to attend and assist you, we can make special arrangements with venues and transportation partners. We also offer a care giver assist packages and discounts for class, courses and adventures. Please email the booking team at firstname.lastname@example.org before booking and tell us how we can best assist you!
Do we get to eat and drink what we make?
Absolutely! Yes, Isn’t that the point?! We believe that everything revolves around the table and at the end or during every class you will sit down together as a group and eat or drink everything you have made and then discuss what your thoughts on the class and its recipes. We call this “Social Learning.” By tasting, talking and thinking about what you have practiced, students will be able to hear and understand other perspectives,
Do I need to purchase insurance?
The Gastronauts Academy strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance, as some or all payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, even in the event of an emergency, catastrophe or unexpected illness, accident or death. For U.S. Citizens we remind you to contact your insurance provider to confirm that you are covered out of state. Please make sure all insurances are updated or organized before you venture into any of our classes, courses or adventures. Gastronauts Academy can not be held responsible for students not having the appropriate insurance coverage.
How do I apply for the Gastronauts Academy Internship program?
When you book any 4-week course, there is a built-in internship program that you can take advantage off if you choose which allows you to gain valuable work experience as you follow your passion. Each weekend within the 4-week course offers the opportunity to work alongside pros and mentors and gain the knowledge and experience that can only be taught through working. What is a gap year?
A gap year is an experiential semester or year "off”, typically taken between high school and college in order to deepen practical, professional, and personal awareness. Gap years are a way to fill the gap between final exams and the beginning of university. The intention in the UK for that time is to contribute to the development of the student usually through an extended international experience. The Gastronauts Academy supports the purpose of taking a gap year and we want to give students the opportunity to develop life skills, increase self-awareness, learn about different cultural perspectives, and experimenting with future careers. Our mission is to encourage the journey, offering a skill set that can help fund a trip, as well as work with others and overall be confident in any situation. Having skills in the hospitality and the food world, offers a vehicle for any student to take every manner of opportunity imaginable, both domestically and internationally.
What is a sabbatical year?
“Sabbatical” is a period of paid leave granted for study or travel intended to deepen practical, professional and personal awareness. Generally known as a “career break” or in other words, what the hell am I doing with my life? Think Julia Roberts in EAT PRAY LOVE. The Gastronauts Academy supports the purpose of taking a sabbatical, we want to give students the opportunity to develop life skills, increase self-awareness, learn about different cultural perspectives, and experimenting with future careers. Our mission is to encourage the journey, offering a skill set that can help fund a trip, work with others and overall be confident in any situation. Having skills in the hospitality and the food world offers a vehicle for any student to take every manner of opportunity imaginable, both domestically and internationally.

Congratulations! You’ve punched out and cashed in. Now what? What have you always wanted to learn? Do you have what it takes to Follow Your Passion? For Gastronauts Academy students that are attending from outside the United States of America, we strongly suggest that you enquire about your nations Visa requirements to enter the U.S. for any purpose. To attend a Gastronauts Academy course for 1-4 weeks a B-1 or visa waiver, is generally required.
